If you're interested in the field of engineering, this is a special event that offers you the opportunity to learn more about SRU’s engineering programs that meet rigorous ABET standards and have some of the best facilities in the region.
During your visit, hear about our six different academic programs in engineering, connect with current students and faculty, and participate in labs and mock class experiences.
Mock Lab/Classroom Descriptions:
during each session time slot and learn more about their engineering program(s) of interest.
Civil Engineering Lab |
Come explore the fascinating world of open channel flow with our Flow Channel & Flume Apparatus! Designed for hands-on learning, this interactive setup features a transparent working section so you can see fluid motion in action—from laminar to turbulent flow. Mounted on a sturdy framework, this impressive unit brings classroom theory to life. |
Construction Management Lab |
Construction Management highlights key aspects of modern construction, focusing on innovations in off-site prefabricated construction, pull/plan scheduling, interpreting construction drawings, and cost estimating. This hands-on event offers valuable insights into efficient building practices and real-world project planning. |
Electrical and Computer Engineering Lab |
Get ready to experience the future of robotics and engineering at our Engineering Day event! Witness the cutting-edge technology of a robot dog, built with precision and powered by advanced electrical engineering principles. This demonstration will showcase how the integration of electrical systems, sensors, and control systems allows these robots to perform complex tasks like walking, balancing, and responding to environmental changes. |
Industrial and Systems Engineering Lab |
The manufacturing simulation will demonstrate the automation of part sorting based on component shape/size. A PLC program-based flexible grip control would be demonstrated in the sorting process. |
Mechanical Engineering Lab |
Explore the world of mechanical systems and engineering design in this hands-on activity. Build your own gear puzzle, crafted using our department’s precision laser jet machine, and learn how gears work together to transfer motion and force. Then, see applied design in action as current students demonstrate their trebuchet projects—built from the ground up as part of their Machine Design course. |
Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Lab |
Explore the world of offshore drilling and subsurface geology in this hands-on activity. Use virtual reality to step onto an offshore drilling rig and see how energy resources are accessed beneath the ocean floor. Then, examine real rock samples to identify rock types and test their porosity—key properties in understanding reservoir potential and energy production. |
